The Mummy 3

August 31st 2008 14:04

Seems that the last couple of weeks I have had the good fortune to see films before they screen on Australian cinema screens. First Hellboy 2 and now The Mummy 3 I seem to be getting a nice dose of pulp adventure squeals. Any cinema chains or publicity department that wishes to give me more advanced tickets would be most welcome I don't mind if they are not pulp adventure squeals. (cant hurt to ask) anyway on to the review.

The story introduces the new villain of the series Emperor Han (played by Jet Li) after an introduction to the villain and the story of how he was imprisoned we pick the story up with the characters about 10 years after the 2 Mummy.

Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and Evelyn O'Connell (Maria Bello replacing Rachel Weisz) are trying to live the quiet life but finding it a hard replacement for the excitement and adventure that they had come accustom to.

When they accept an invitation to go on one last mission. They travel to China to discover that there life of adventure doesn't want to leave them alone.

John Hanna returns as Evelyn's brother and Luke Ford joins the cast as Alex O'Connell.

When the first Mummy film came out it was on the tale end of the Universal Monster movie remakes and a friend of mine described it as an Indiana Jones movie and I feel that this description is apt for this film. The Mummy 3 is everything that I was hoping for in Indiana Jones 4. It was packed to that rafters with adventure and fun.

The set pieces are memorable and engaging and the sense of fun is in full force but, the integrity of the film is never sacrificed to pull sight gags.

This film is not for everyone but I feel that the reviewers have been unkind to this fun film that sits quite comfortably with the other two Mummy films. (Granted these bad guys are not really Mummys in the strictest sense.)

Rob Cohen has taken over from Stephen Summers and done a wonderful job in my humble opinion. The best thing I can say is that if you liked XXX and The Fast and the Furious then you will enjoy the Mummy 3.

If those films are not for you then you may find that this film holds little enjoyment for you. So Karl is this movie worth it?

It has chases, action, adventure, humor, armies clashing, yeti's and the undead. I would say there are worse ways to spend 2 hours. I will give it a solid 7 out of 10.
