Here we go again.
At some point I am going to a group of posts about the three giant comic franchises from the 80's X - Men, Teen Titans and Legion of Super Heroes. Each one will take a post at least. But I wanted to talk about one of the things that will elicit joy and pain from comic readers the mega super deluxe cross over.
Both Marvel and DC have just started the next big thing.
Marvel have Secret Invasion the big event that has had the story seeds planted for the last few years according to the writers and Marvel.
DC has Final Crisis a book written by Grant Morrison, a man who's imagination is so creative that it borders on genius. Yes the man will get a blog devoted to him at a later date as well.
But the big thing about the big mega event is that it is never just the six books in the main story, you have the ancillary books that are vital to the story. That is what my wallet is grumpy about and then added to that is the effect that these books have on the characters themselves. I mean crisis tend to be fairly lethal for DC characters.
Secret Invasion calls into question the actions of characters you have known and loved for years because they may have been shape changing Skrulls.
But I still cant shake it, I should know better. I should be cynical about it all right now. I know that the big earthshaking moments that happen in the big mega cross over will eventually be reset and every thing will go back to the status quo. But I just cant help it. And I have to say in 2005 - 2006 when last Marvel and DC did the cross over tango I was not disappointed.
I want to know who is a Skrull in the marvel universe and has been for the last 8 years and how the heroes of the DCU will defeat Darksied.
Im just worried that the build up will not be justified by the story itself.
So here is hoping that 2008 gives me moments that have me rushing to turn the page not knowing what will happen next.
You have to excuse me I am in the middle of watching two brightly colored characters beat the crap out of each other with the fate of the universe as we know it hanging in the balance.
