Portland Eatathon-Second Course

April 10th 2010 18:12

I don’t know if you have ever been on an eatathon but I just took one in the city of Portland, Oregon. I traveled to Portland, Oregon this week to check out the city. While visiting, I had some of the best food this side of the Mississippi!

This is the second course of my trip. The first course was at Grand Central Bakery. Yum. The second course followed Guy Fieri of the show Triple D, Diners Drive-ins and Dives suggestion. Guy is a high-spirited man, who travels around the United States looking for the yummiest, most flavorful, mouth watering, savory food you have ever tasted!

A picture is worth a thousand words! The Pine State Biscuit Sandwiches were off the chain.
Pine Street Site
Pine State Biscuits launched at the Portland Farmers Market in 2006. Word caught on and in early 2008, Walt, Kevin, and Brian opened up a small biscuit shop on Belmont Ave- the rest is history.

Oh, my this was a little bit of sit down and roll up your sleeves! Pine State is this small, cute, old-fashioned storefront. Behind the counter serving up the biggest, juiciest, mouthwatering biscuit sandwiches you have ever seen was this kid that seemed about 20 years old wearing a headband over his long brown shoulder length hair. The place had this cool hip like vibe but Pine State was dishing up the real foodie meal.

I went for the recommendation that Guy tried when he went, I ordered The Reggie. The home made biscuits alone are flakey and mouth watering. Add bacon, chicken, cheese and gravy and you have The Reggie. Oh Boy! This was “out of bounds” as Guy says. It was so wrong but so good! Each mouth full was full of so many flavors. The first bite was the gravy and biscuit. The second bite was chicken bacon and cheese. The third bite was chicken and cheese. You get the picture this was a sinful delight. I didn’t stop at The Reggie. I could not part from Pine State Biscuit without also ordering the Pine State Fried Club to take home. I know I could not eat the Pine State Fried Club in one sitting but the description, "trio of fried grit cakes topped with fried chicken and spiced honey, pimento cheese and fried green tomato and ham and white cheddar" more than peaked my interest.

If in Portland do yourself a favor stop, walk, or drive by Pine Street Biscuits. The operation hours are from 7 am to 2 in the afternoon so get up early. Go by and see one of these “bad boy sandwiches” coming up for service. Your eyes will widen at the sight. Roll up your sleeves and get down Portland style!
