Killing Pixels

So I have been playing video games today something that I haven't done in a while and I realize that there is a gap in my geeking when it came to Video Games.
Now Video games are the Ultimate expression of Geeks chasing something new. Video games are designed to be disposable media. While some games will allow you replay for a while most games are designed to eat your time and then be replaced by the next game that will within a few months be replaced by the next.
At $80 - $100 a pop and that is not counting the system, it becomes a hard sell to the loveing other half that I really have to get the Super Delux Mega Sword Master Neo game as she knows that she will have to endure days of her Fiancee spending all his free time glued to a TV trying to find the Hidden caverns of Canna Save.
But mannn do I love to play video games. When you get a good game that kicks in (That point when you go Ohhh now I know how the controls work and how to avoid getting killed) it can be just as engaging as a great film or book.
I have to confress I have great difficulty finishing games (I am a bad Video game geek. I haven't finished Final Fantasy 7 or HALO 1, 2 or 3) I don't own a 360 or a PS3. I got an X Box 2 years ago for the first time before that I had a PS 1.
So the games that I geek on are old hat. Right now I am loving Forgotten Realms Demon Stone. Started playing it today and enjoying the hell out of it. But I sacrificed game time to write this blog. Look at how I put my readers first.
Now significant other and I are in "talks' for a 360 and I may get it some time in the next couple of months. But for right now I am still on the X - Box 1.
What I can talk about with some fondness is the games that I loved and could still sit down and waste time on.
Atari 2600
River Raid - Spent hours on that game just trying to survive. A great simple game that I still have a great fondness for.
NES
Ladies and gentlemen I never owned a SNES so I cannot supply a game I loved on this console.
Sega Mega Drive.
Flashback - Search for Identity. A game that had some of the very first cut scenes.
Mortal Kombat - A decent for the time simulation of the Arcade.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Still a fun game
Computer
Wing Commander 3 and 4 plus Privateer 2. I loved these games and spent hours just watching the closest thing to a cool sci - fi movie that i could get. Recently brought WC3 2nd Hand for the PS1 from a video store.
Rebal Alliance 2 - Fun star wars gaming with a story.
PS1
Abe's odyssey and Abe's Exodus - this was one of the coolest PS1 games ever. Great addictive fun.
Final Fantasy 7 - I never got very far into this game but I did have it on the PS1I still have fond memories of what I did play.
X-Box
Star Wars Lego is heaps of fun and almost a party game.
Crimson Skies - The first X - Box game I clocked great fun took me a couple of weeks but worth the effort. Engaging Story.
Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic - Goodbye life hello KOTOR
HALO 1 and 2 in Multiplayer HEAPS of fun.
Balders Gate Dark Alliance - Also a game I have completed and taught me some timely lessons about being a player in D & D .
I'm curious to see where I will rank Demon Stone when I am finished. We will see.
Arcade
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade - This machine still eats my money.
Star Trek Next Generation - Pin Ball i lost count of the money that I have spent on this.
Dragons Lair 2 - Love Love Love Love LOVE this game legendary.
Star Wars - Polygon Arcade game. I would love to find a copy of this game in an Arcade.

Final Crisis #2
Grant Morrison is starting to kick in some high concept and we are only at issue 2. I don't know where the story is going but the use of time travel is just genius.
Game of the Week
Drum roll please
Forgotten Realms - Demon Stone
WIth a story written by R A Salvatore and a fun interface at the moment I'm loving it

It's All Geek To Me
I remember lusting after a SNES for a few months back in 1992, but never being able to afford it.
