Freaky Eater- New Food Intervention Show on TLC
September 5th 2010 05:13
What is it about our society that craves watching other people struggle in strange and not so strange situations of life? Why do we constantly watch people eat worms, live with strangers, drink and drug, cheat on spouses, get arrested, or have surgeries? It痴 easy to sit on the couch and watch other people tussle through life after a long day at work.
Sitting in front of the television watching some poor guy lose weight or get arrested does not require self- reflection or thought. Each person with a television has the greatest getaway, sitting on the coach with the remote in hand. These are the years of escapeTV.
This Sunday another option of escapism is coming to TLC Channel. A food intervention show called Freaky Eater premiers September 5th at 10/9C. Freaky Eater is the new 6 part series about obsessive eating. Similar to the show Intervention, Psychotherapist, Dr. Mike Dow and Nutrition Specialist, J.J. Virgin, lay down the law to someone who is obsessively eating.
In the Freaky Eater clip on YouTube a man addicted to cheeseburgers talked about his obsession at will. He eats 1,460 cheeseburgers a year! He does not consume anything else! One has to admit, this does seem unbelievable. Pure amazement if nothing else will have you watching in shock. Not only did he admit eating this way, he was oblivious to the consequences. In the clip, a truckload of cheeseburger cartons was opened in front of him. As the cartons poured out of the truck upon his feet he looked on with amusement. His wife looked horrified. I can predict it will be interesting watching to see if this guy can stop eating 4 cheeseburgers a day.
Why are you obsessed with reality shows, popcorn or washing your car? A show about you could be next. Don稚 worry - just watch the cheeseburgers and escape from your obsession.

While I get that the whole point may have something to do with inspiring other people to lose weight or get help for an addiction this one just seems more like hey look at the freak that eats four cheeseburgers a day. I have no interest in watching but I have to admit that I'm blown away that there's someone that eats that many cheeseburgers. I eat a lot of chicken but it comes nowhere near that number.
