Excuse Me, Piglet!
March 25th 2010 03:12
Excuse me, piglet! Today, on the way to work my daughter and I saw a woman open her car door and throw out two big pieces of trash! What the?! We were outraged and to be honest I wanted to run her down with my car by chasing her when she got on the freeway. People could call me The Vigilante Litter Destroyer. I would be kind of like a super hero but not.
I can’t get over how people throw trash on the ground. Did these people grow up in barns or what? I wish so badly that the police gave out the littering ticket I see threatened on the highway signs. Have you seen a person get one? Have you heard of a person getting one?
With current water droughts, rain drains clogged, pollution in the ocean, etc. I would think every person would just not throw things on the ground. Let alone opening your car door and toss it out on the street!
I think a sense of self and community are lost in our fast media, self-help, answer me now world. Gee, the foundation of this country was founded on people searching for freedom. People came to the new world to be free of persecution and to participate in a community they craved.
I crave a community that does not throw trash into the street. When people do not have a sense of community and pride of ownership they can throw trash in the middle of the street. It would be like throwing trash in your living room instead of the trashcan.
Many people struggle with a belief system, faith, vision, or self-spirituality. When the connections are all about yourself and do not move outward in the world it easy to blow off the next guy, trees, grass and a public street. One can easily do this because it’s not yours; you are not connected to it.
So if someone doesn’t believe in anything it’s easier to pass the world off as someone else’s.
I do not know what was in the craw of the women this morning but I pray our horrified reactions cause her to think again. I care. I have pride of ownership in our community and do not want the piglets to take over.
