Drag Queens of Comedy

April 18th 2011 03:32

Funny or not here they come! This week the queens perform stand-up comedy routines in front of a live audience on RuPaul's Drag Race!

Before the first mini-challenge the backlash started from the comments made on the runway last episode. The queens are broken into two groups and it is not friendly. Oh, the drama!

Alexis talks smack about the other contestants for the mini-challenge

Ru told the queens that America’s next drag queen could not take herself too seriously; she needed a tough skin. This week’s mini-challenge was to talk smack about one another or “read each other”. The queen who dishes the best dirt wins! Horrible challenge, there is enough hatred in this world without perpetuation within a group of people who are already discriminated against.

For the main challenge the queens had to develop a stand up comedy routine and create a drag look to go along with the routine. Each contestant had an opportunity for comedic coaching by Rita Rudner, comedienne, writer and actress. Shangela won the mini- challenge and was able to pick the line up for the comedy show.

Shangela's Post Modern Pimp Ho Character

Shangela has experience as a comedian and the other queens just freaked out. When it came to the coaching lesson Carmen was the only person who came without anything prepared.

This week's judges

This weeks judges were Michelle Visage, singer and TV/radio host; Billy B, well known make-up artist and special guests, comedienne Rita Rudner and MADTV's Arden Myrin.

The main stage presented RuPaul’s Drag Queens of Comedy! Some of the stand-up was funny and others not so much.

Raja's Carrie

Alexis Mateo's big breasted character

Raja did a parody of Carrie. Carmen’s stand up was about wanting to be fat and she wore a fat suit under a fake fur coat. Alexis was the biggest breasted Puerto Rican woman in the world! Shanegla was a Post modern Pimp Ho, she was funny and the most comfortable on stage. Manila made fun of the gayness Sesame Street. Yara Sophia was a small person from Spain. She was so ridiculous it was funny. Delta made fun of her being big and wore a shirt of a slim women in a bikini.

The judges loved Shangela. Yara Sophia’s little person was a hit. Carmen impressed the judges especially since she was not prepared previously.

Manila's stand up

Manila was impressive looking but the judges did not think her stand up was fresh. Manila was up for elimination and in the bottom two. Delta’s stand-up started off good but ended without any laughs. The judges thought her routine had a sad feel to it. Delta was also up for elimination.

“Two queens stand before me, ladies this is your last chance to impress me and save yourself from elimination. The time has come for you to Lip Sync for your lives and don’t f**k it up!” The lip sync song is Donna Summer’s Macarthur Park. Manila brought it!

Lip Sync for your life

Ru said, “That is what a lip sync for your life is all about!” Manila Shante you stay! Delta Works Shasay away!

Bye Delta
