Drag Anchor Queens-RuPaul takes on the Morning News
April 4th 2011 02:43
CNN drag style?! In episode 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the drag queens are asked to create a morning news show persona by taking on the role of television anchors on QNN Television. After QNN Television, morning television will never be the same.
For the first challenge the drag queens mock Hollywood’s most outrageous celebrities by creating a quick drag look for the red carpet. Carmen Carrera poked fun at the Lindsay Lohan’s no underwear scandal. Stacy Layne Matthews took a swing at the Janet Jackson Justin Timberlake Super bowl debauch.
Each won the challenge and became team leaders for the morning news competition. Special guest star, Debbie Matenopoulos, formly of the View coached each team for a real television edge.
The group competition aspect is new this season. It forces the queens to work together to save themselves from elimination. Team competition also is fertile ground for the “them vs. us” mentality.
This week’s judges are Michelle Visage, singer and TV/radio host, Billy B, fashion and entertainment makeup artist, and special guests HBO's Big Love's Chloë Sevigny and Debbie Matenoupolous, from the View.
On the runway the contestants were asked to wear their most fierce drag look. Raja shines in this area; she is an amazing runway model. Her French inspired runway outfit left the judges speechless.
This week five drag queens represented the best and the worst: Manila Luzon, India Ferrah, Mariah, Stacy Layne Matthews and Shangela. India Ferrah did not fair well. The judges thought her performance as a weather girl was hard to watch.
Billy B said, “She has the gift of us telling her what to do and she is still not doing it.”
“I thought the dress was horrible, the performance was horrible and the make-up was horrible”, said Michelle Visage.
Stacy Layne has consistently not impressed the judges. Her leadership capabilities as the lead in the TV anchor competition were weak. She is not confident and continues to promise better performances without delivery.
Needless to say, Stacy Layne Matthews and India Ferrah were the bottom two and up for elimination. “Two queens stand before me, ladies this is your last chance to impress me and save yourself from elimination. The time has come for you to Lip Sync for your lives and don’t f**k it up!” This week’s lip sync song was There is a Meeting in the Ladies Room by Klymaxx. India Ferrah could not hold a candle to Stacey’s performance. Stacy Layne brought it; she was great!
Stacy Layne Shante you stay.
