Con-DRAG-ulations! Season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is well on the way! RuPaul’s Drag Race is a “Top Model” like competition for drag queens on the Logo Channel. Outlandish, hilarious and entertaining describe what it is like to take a walk on the wild side with RuPaul. These competitive queens are no joke, they have to sew, make outfits out of nothing and strut in high heels like a runway model. This season started off with 12 spirited contestants and one booby prize returning contestant from last season. Needless to say, the new contestants were not happy when Shangela Laquifa Wadley of Paris, TX popped out of a box as the special surprise.
A surprise photo shoot with Mike Ruiz, New York-based celebrity and fashion photographer, was the first event. The queens had to jump on a trampoline hoping to grab an incredible modeling photo. Want to see an uncomfortable drag queen? Ask her to jump and possibly reveal all she has worked so hard to cover up. Some pictures were stunning while others not so much.
Next in this episode, The Queen Who Mopped Xmas, the contestants had to create a dazzling Christmas outfit from thrift store materials for a runway presentation. When the 13 drag queens invaded the Jewish Counsel Thrift Store located in Los Angeles midday, shoppers were quite shocked!
As the queens created their Christmas outfits, Mimi Imfurst emerged as the crybaby out the gate by whining and agonizing about her lack of outfit and not being a seamstress. Two of the queens helped her out and she put away her blankie.
The judges the first week were Bruce Vilanch, writer, songwriter and actor; Santino Rice, a fashion designer; Michelle Visage, singer and TV/radio host; and special guest star Vanessa Williams!
At the end of the episode Ru pulls out six of the contestants for critiques, the 3 highest and 3 lowest. This is brutal for the contestants who do not know if they are in the bottom or top.
Shangela bombed with a Chinese lamp looking skirt and a huge snowman that upstaged her. Vanessa Williams pointed out that Shangela’s modeling picture was mostly armpit. Santino romped on Venus D-Lite’s outfit saying she looked like a sad Christmas elf! Vanessa said the best thing about Venus D-Lite’s runway outfit was the ponytail, ouch!
These two queens were up for elimination and had to L-l-lip Sync for their lives to Vanessa Williams’ The Right Stuff in front of Vanessa Williams! Venus D-Lite, a drag queen from Florida didn’t make the cut. She was poignantly disappointed especially since she disclosed she had surgery to look more like Madonna. Venus D-Lite sashay away!
Can’t wait to see what happens next..
