Closet Geeks

I don't think that this will come as much of a surprise. I love being a geek. I love collecting star wars stuff. Watching big sci - fi movies and playing dungeons and dragons. In a way that you love a pair of jeans that you have had for ever. It is comfortable and natural and so a part of me that I cant separate it from my day to day life.
But there are others among us. People who are aloof and fein disinterest when they are in large groups of people, but in a one on one situation will confess in hushed tones that they have just got up to level 45 in World of Warcraft or they have a comprehensive Star Wars figure collection.
But they will tell you with a quiet voice "But don't say anything." Mainly I think it is because they see what people say about geeky stuff or the way they will look down there nose at conversations that consist of the finer points of the Players Handbook and what character class is a better choice at first level.
But here is the thing. If you love something then you should not be ashamed of it. Because no one can really begrudge your joy.
At the end of the day all you are doing by keeping your geekyness a secret is depriving yourself fun.
So if you know someone that is a closet geek, ladies and gentlemen a urge you to out this geek.
Or if you are a closet geek, it is never as bad as you think and the jokes that are made at your expense are never as bad as you fear and a small price to pay to express yourself and experience being comfortable in your own skin.
So this week it is time to out a geek. Or if you don't have a closet geek in your life, have one geeky conversation with someone that you don't usually have a geeky conversation with or if you don't consider yourself a geek. Find someone who in your life that is a geek and ask them to share something geeky with you that they love or that you have always been curious about. You might find a new passion.
This could be the start of something new for you.
Could be a great week.
