Clone Wars

I have waited for a few weeks to write my review of The Clone Wars as I had a disappointing time with the film and I wanted to wait for the series.
So lets talk about the film.
Clone Wars is set between episode 2 and 3 of the prequel trilogy and from what I can see it sits right after volume one and two of the "Gendi" series. (This is what comprises the first DVD)
We are introduced to Anakin at the height of his power. It shows Obi Wan as the smart tactician that we have come to know. It also introduces Ashoka, Anakin's Padawan.
So from my experience, I have to say that when I take the individual elements I can see nothing wrong. I cant fault any of the concepts, I didnt have a problem with Ashoka, zero the hutt was nothing too offensive. There is nothing about the film when I break it into indivial parts that I had a problem with.
But as a whole it left me cold. I mean I just didn't think it was a good film. It was likable inoffensive but nothing special.
There were some very cool moments in the film and it was very dynamic, but as a film. Not a great film. I just felt the execution was off. We had all the stuff that should make a cool film but nothing that I could connect with as a viewer.
I will of course be buying the DVD (Star Wars Geek) and giving it another spin so I will see if I have a change of heart on the small screen.
5 out of 10 is the score I would give it.
Now I have seen 2 1/2 episodes of the series and I have to say that my rating of the series is much higher.
The first episode is a story about Yoda negotiating with a king on a coral moon. It was a strong episode in that it portrayed Yoda as a tactician and also starts to show how he can pretend to be the old crazy coot from Empire Strikes Back.
My fault that I would have for the episode is that it suffered from a lack of background characters, we see an entire planet and very little wild life.
The second episode is the hunt for a super weapon.
This introduces General Grievous to the series and also gives us a chance to get to know Plo Kloon better. It is a great episode with a moment that was quite strange and a little chilling.
I would rate this the stronger of the two.
So Clone wars Film 5 out of 10
Clone Wars Episode 1- 7 out of 10
Clone Wars Episode 2 - 8 out of 10
I will come back with another review further on in the series.
I am watching with interest.
Serial Update
Episode 1 hits tomorrow.
