Battlestar Galatica

So after Babylon 5 I found myself with out a show. I had watched it for 5 years and didn’t really have anything that engaged me in the same way. I was left with a feeling of freefall.
Thursday nights were not the same and everything seemed lost.
Then Buffy the Vampire Slayer took over. A show that I could really get into and again I had the joys of Serial TV but I still missed weekly space opera. Farscape was OK but it didn’t have the level of serial story telling of Babylon 5 or Buffy and Star Trek and Stargate didn’t really do anything for me.
Then Buffy ended and again I found myself without a show.
But a funny thing was happening. Around the time that Buffy was dominating my life I started to hear things about Battlestar Galatica. At first just that Glen A Larson was talking about how good a contemporary Battlestar Galatica would be with the potential of CGI.
Then a year or so later I discovered that Richard Hatch who played Apollo in the original series had produced a Trailer for a proposed Battlestar series that would continue the adventures of Apollo years after the original series with from what I understand it Apollo training a new generation of Viper Pilots.
Then around this time I started to hear reports that Glen A Larson had been in talks to produce a new Battlestar Galatica.
A movie from what I first understood that would re-imagine the series.
This sounded awful to me. Richard Hatch had a perfectly cool idea and he got to stay true the original spirit of the series.
And then I heard more and then I forgot about it.
Flash forward to early 2005. A buddy of mine at work had said that he watched the Battlestar Galatica miniseries and that it was good.
So after borrowing it from him I plonked myself down on the weekend and watched the whole thing.
It was cool. The cylons looked a little clunky and the characters were different from what I remembered but it was fairly cool.
So I enjoyed the DVD gave it back to my friend and went on my merry way.
Then I did a bit of looking on line and discovered that Battlestar was going to be made into a series and it had started airing.
Over the next few months I would hear good things, then channel 10 aired the pilot.
Most of my friends thought it was boring, but I loved it.
Then the following week they aired the first episode of season 1 “33”
I was blown away. The mini was cool but “33” was amazing.
Then over the next few weeks I watched all of season 1.
I was primed for season 2. I waited for many weeks then one day I read the TV lisings for Channel ten and they were airing episode 4 of season 2 of Battlesar Galatica.
I had missed the first 3 episodes, because Channel ten just didn’t promote it at all.
So from then on I have only watched Battlestar on DVD or my computer.
And now Season 4 has returned after a hiatus of several episodes. It has returned to finish the final season.
And damn am I hooked.
My only fear is what can I hook into after Battlestar.
Apparently Sci – Fi channel have commissioned a prequel series called Caprica set 50 year before. But I will wait to see what that is like.
But for now I am just going to enjoy the last 9 episodes of Battlestar.
A show that will be remembered for a very long time.
So say we all!
